Mississippi First for 'Dry' Amendment

THE WILMINGTON DISPATCH, North Carolina , January 9, 1918 listed on its front page this article:
* MISSISSIPPI FIRST FOR 'DRY' AMENDMENT
Jackson, Miss., Jan. 9.-Fifteen minutes after the subject was presented in Governor Bilbo's message to the Legislature both houses ratified the proposed prohibition amendment to the Federal Constitution. Only 8 dissenting votes were cast. Mississippi is the first state in which such action was taken.
